Our groundbreaking wilderness
tour of Mull and Iona, explores the wildlife, scenery and culture of
the Inner Hebrides.
Based in Tobermory, one of the most charming villages in Scotland with its
colourful painted houses and warm welcome, we set out to visit the idyllic
Island of Iona, regarded as the cradle of Scottish Christianity and burial
place of Scotland’s ancient kings. You’ll also have the
opportunity to enjoy a cruise to the uninhabited Island of Staffa*, home
of the awe inspiring Fingal’s Cave, see the Puffins, or take a whale and
dolphin-spotting cruise* with Sea Life Surveys (*optional).
After returning to the mainland we explore the magnificent Ardnamurchan
Peninsula, the emost westerly point in the mainland and one of
Scotland’s most beautiful and remote areas. Visit Glenfinnan, where the
1745 Jacobite uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie began, and its
railway viaduct, recently made famous in the Harry Potter films. We travel
through Fort William, in the shadow of mighty Ben Nevis - Britain’s
highest mountain and south through awesome Glencoe, scene of the infamous
massacre our final stop is to enjoy a wee dram in Scotland’s oldest
whisky distillery!
ITINERARY
Day 1: Edinburgh - Mull
Leaving Edinburgh, we head
straight for one of Scotland’s most historic places, Stirling.
Scene of some of the bloodiest battles in the country's history. We
hear tales of Scottish legends such as William Wallace and Robert
the Bruce. From Stirling, we then head for the bonnie banks of Loch
Lomond, before passing through the stunning Arrochar Alps. After
stopping in Inveraray on the shores of Loch Fynne for lunch (famous
for seafood), we take the ferry from Oban to the Isle of
Mull. Overnight tonight is in the charming village of Tobermory.
Day 2: Mull - Mull
Today we have a couple of
great options for you. You can choose between a trip to Iona and a
boat trip to the Isle of Staffa or a whale and dolphin spotting
cruise from Tobermory (optional). The idyllic Island of
Iona, is regarded as the cradle of Scottish Christianity and burial
place of Scotland’s ancient kings. You’ll also have the
opportunity to take a cruise out to the uninhabited and dramatic
Island of Staffa (optional), home of the famous Fingal’s
Cave to spot sea birds such as Puffins and Eagles. This cruise
lasts approx 3 hours. After a few hours to explore Iona, it’s time
to wind our way back to Tobermory, keeping our eyes peeled for
Golden Eagles, Sea Eagles, Deer and Otters.
Day 3: Mull - Onich
We leave the Inner Hebrides
behind today as we return to the mainland to explore the
magnificent Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the most westerly point in
the British mainland and one of Scotland’s most beautiful
and remote areas. We visit dramatic Glenfinnan, where the Bonnie
Prince Charlie raised his standard and 1745 Jacobite uprising
began, and more recently made famous in the Harry Potter
films. We then travel through Fort William, in the shadow of mighty
Ben Nevis.
Day 4: Onich - Edinburgh
Our final day starts with
an awesome drive through the majestic Glencoe. Scene of the infamous
massacre Weather permitting, we may also have a chance to take a
walk through the mysterious lost valley, before making our way south
through the haunting Rannoch Moor. After lunch, we’ll head for
Scotland’s oldest whisky distillery, Glenturret in Crieff, which
is home to ‘the Famous Grouse Experience’, and we’ll drink a
wee toast to an amazing four days, before winding our way home to
Edinburgh over the Forth with fantastic views of the famous Forth
Bridge.
