ITINERARY
Day 1: Edinburgh - Oban
Leaving Edinburgh, we head
for Wallace country, where our passionate and knowledgeable
guide will recount exciting tales of Scotland's national heros William
Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Our route north takes us
through the dramatic & inspiring Glencoe, scene of the
infamous massacre in 1692. If weather permits we may well take one of
our legendary ‘wee walks’ before making our way along the coast
to the small seaside town of Oban.
Day 2: Oban - Skye
After breakfast we leave Oban
and head north past famous Castle Stalker (Castle Ahhhh in Monty
Python!), as we head into to Glen Nevis, in the shadow of mighty Ben
Nevis (Britain's highest mountain) and the film location of 'Braveheart‘
and Harry Potter. Our journey through the Great Glen and West
through lonely Glen Sheil & the 'five sisters of Kintail' to
Eilean Donan Castle is truly spectacular. We explore the most
photographed castle in Scotland & possibly the most stunning
castle in Europe. Then it's over the sea to the magical Isle of Skye!
Day 3: Skye - Skye
A full day exploring the
wonderful Isle of Skye. Ruined castles, awesome scenery, Bonnie
Prince Charlie, the jagged Black Cuillin Mountains, Viking fortresses
and home to the legendary MacLeod and MacDonald Clans. Immersed in
Celtic myth & legend, hear about selkies, the mischievous faeries
and learn the secret of eternal youth!!! The Isle of Skye is quite
simply unforgettable.
Day 4: Skye - Carbisdale
Castle*
Returning to the mainland, we
explore the wild landscape of Torridon and Wester Ross. Towering
mountains, composed of some of the oldest rocks on earth and rare
wildlife make this a fascinating place. Around Inverness, capital of
the Highlands we'll see haunting Culloden moor, sight of the defeat of
Bonne Prince Charlie’s Jacobite uprising and the standing stones at
Clava Cairns. We may even find time to sample Scotland's national
drink - uisge beathe - whisky, at a working distillery! Tonight we
will sleep in a magnificent Haunted Highland Castle!*
Day 5: Carbisdale Castle -
Loch Ness
Heading north towards
Ullapool, today’s highlights include stunning sandy beaches,
waterfalls and picturesque fishing villages. Then it’s off to Loch
Ness, where hopefully we’ll catch a glimpse of the Nessie - keep
your camera ready! We may get the chance to walk amongst the
Caledonian Pine Forest, the last remaining area of Scotland’s
ancient forest. Staying on the banks of Loch Ness, tonight we discover
a bit more of highland history and culture, before trying to entice
Nessie out for a wee dram!
Day 6: Loch Ness -
Edinburgh
Today is the perfect end to
your Highland adventure as we quietly wind our way southwards from
Loch Ness, passing along the shores Loch Laggan where the TV series
‘Monarch of the Glen’ is filmed. Taking our time to explore
beautiful Perthshire, big tree country, before finally crossing the
spectacular Forth Bridge on our return to the capital city of
Edinburgh. An awesome, action packed highland adventure!
