Over hundred of years the sea has receded and Rye is no
longer surrounded by the sea, but still retain its harbour and
maritime connections.
A beautiful market town, well preserved, with a maze of cobbled
streets and still evident secret passages when Rye was also a major
centre for smuggling.
Hastings
, once a prosperous fishing port, became renowned for
smuggling. The sandstone cliffs were perfect carving out caves in
which the smugglers hided their gains.
Today ,the west of the Old Town is a
seaside resort, with its narrow streets and the town's unique wooden
tall net shops in the beach, where for hundred of years fishermen
have stored their fishing nets
